The Snack Situation:
Eating in a library has always been taboo for me, so we always made sure to have snacks outside.
You are absolutely spoiled for snack options right around the library! We love grabbing treats from COBS Bread on West Broadway or The Pie Hole (I'm a big fan of their giant chocolate chip cookies). There's even a Safeway grocery store right next door.
Potty Proximity:
Yes, there is a bathroom in the library with a change table.
Mum Musings:
I used to love the quiet tranquility of a library for studying and getting work done, but now I also truly appreciate what a gem they are for toddlers! Since we didn't bring many books with us and I didn't want to buy too many for the move, the library was a dream, new books every two weeks! Yuyu absolutely loved having her own card and would proudly present it to the librarian when it was time to check out our haul.
It quickly became our go-to weekend destination when I was either too tired to plan a big adventure or it was raining and we just needed to get out of the apartment. It never disappointed.

Storytime & Activities
Sometimes we'd make it to the toddler story times, which were sweet- little chairs placed in a circle, two books read, fan-favorite songs sung, and a participation stamp at the end (a HUGE hit with Yuyu).
Quick Tip: The times and activities change, so it’s always worth checking the library website for the latest schedule. After story time, toys and colours are often put out for the kids to use.
Why the Kitsilano Branch Works:
The library is small enough that I can happily browse the kids' bookshelves while Yuyu is playing with the toys or "looking" for her own books.
I love that we don't have to be completely silent in the children's section, which is a big relief.
I once saw that you could rent out musical instruments and had grand aspirations of renting a keyboard for Jamie to teach Yuyu... but then I came to my senses. I realized I wasn't ready for that kind of constant noise with a newborn also at home.
Toddler Tolerance Level:
1 - 1.5 hours is usually our limit, which is perfect for a quick outing.
Nap Roulette Options?
We'd usually go for a gentle walk down West Broadway after the library, but we always made sure to head home in time for the mid-day nap.
