Where We Spent a Wake Window: Bear Creek Park - Surrey

Location & Parking:

This was a bit of a trek (about a 50-minute drive from Kitsilano), but it went by without incident, which is always a win. I was pleasantly surprised to find a lovely, free outdoor parking lot right at the park.

Set your GPS to:    13750 - 88 Avenue, Surrey BC.

The Damage Report ($):

Regular Train Ride: $7

Easter Event (Ages 2+): $15

Under 2: FREE

We went specifically for the Easter event, but the playground and gardens are free to enjoy any day.

Wheely Friendly?

Yes. It’s about a 5 minute walk from the parking lot to the train station. The paths are easy to navigate with a stroller, and there is a designated stroller parking area right at the station so you don't have to worry about it while on the train.

The Snack Situation:

There is a small ‘hut’ where you buy tickets that sells snacks and drinks. We grabbed hot chocolate and popcorn for the wait. There are also plenty of picnic tables scattered around the playground area.

Potty Proximity:

There are multiple bathrooms around the park. We used the Bear Creek Park Stadium washrooms right next to the playground. They were clean and, crucially, had a change table.

Mum Musings: Bunny Ears & "The Chocolate Dealer"

Yuyu is currently in a "trains are life" phase, so I’ve been on a mission to find every track in the Lower Mainland. Watching her face light up with that mix of awe and joy is honestly just as much for me as it is for her.

The Easter experience:

I loved  that we didn’t have to book tickets in advance. You just show up and buy them, which takes so much stress off the morning "get out the door" shuffle.

  • The Wait: There was a long line for the train, but they were smart enough to have a craft table right in the queue. Yuyu and Jamie spent the wait making a set of bunny ears, which she proudly wore for the rest of the day.

  • The Ride: The Eddy the Engine train ride is under 10 minutes, just long enough for a toddler’s attention span, with some  Easter decorations along the forest track.

  • The Hunt: At the end, the Easter Bunny was roaming around (Yuyu’s first time realizing he's basically a chocolate dealer). She ran around with a basket collecting eggs, which she then traded in for chocolate and bubbles.

  • There were also some kid friendly games set-up such as cornhole and a petting zoo.

  • All in all, a sweet Easter activity that I'm glad we did.

I didn't realize how massive this park is! As we were walking, we passed a water park and a huge kids' playground. We actually had to coax Yuyu away from the slides just to get her to the train station. It’s definitely a spot where you could spend an entire day.

Toddler Tolerance Level:

1 hour. The specific Easter activities took about an hour, which was the perfect "sweet spot" for her attention.

Nap Roulette Options?

Nap Roulette Options?

Since we had some time before trying to catch Yuyu’s nap on the drive home, we split up:

  • Yuyu and Jamie headed back to the slides and had a blast at the playground.

  • Mum and I took Gabe for a lovely, quiet stroll through the Bear Creek Park Gardens.

  • I had packed a  lunch for Yuyu, which she happily enjoyed at the picnic tables. However, I completely neglected the adults. While she feasted, the rest of us subsisted on a diet of canteen crisps.

Mimi of Mi & Yu things to do in Vancouver

I’m Mimi, the writer behind Mi & Yu. This blog was born out of a year spent exploring Vancouver with my toddler Yuyu and newborn son Gabe while my husband Jamie worked through a demanding fellowship.

What started as a way to survive the newborn phase turned into a collection of tried-and-tested family adventures, real reviews, tested logistics, and the occasional toddler meltdown included. Now back home in Newfoundland, I’m sharing those adventures so other parents can skip the decision fatigue and get straight to the fun part.
