Where We Spent a Wake Window: Grouse Mountain - Peak of Christmas.

Location & Parking:

Set your GPS to:  6400 Nancy Greene Way, NORTH VANCOUVER, BC V7R 4K9 (Base of the Mountain)

Official info: https://www.grousemountain.com/peak-of-christmas

The Damage Report ($):

  • Parking: Paid parking was available at the entrance of Grouse Mountain.

Wheely Friendly?

Not fully. While we could take our stroller up the Gondola and into the chalet and restaurants, the outdoor Peak of Christmas activities (Santa, Light Walk) are not stroller friendly.

We ended up parking and paying for storage in the chalet coat check. In hindsight, I would have left my stroller in the car at the base of the mountain.

The Snack Situation:

In the main "Peak Chalet," there are four different places to eat, ranging from casual self-service/cafeteria style to fancier restaurants. We just had some snacks.

Our fav. part was seeing a real reindeer for the first time.

Potty Proximity:

We used the bathrooms in the Peak Chalet - easy and accessible.

Mum Musings:

I was really excited for the Peak of Christmas at Grouse Mountain - it’s described as a magical Christmas activity. With Jamie's parents visiting ("Nan and Poppy"), it seemed like a fun activity for everyone, ranging from musical entertainment to movie screenings and visiting Santa.

However I was left a bit disappointed and was admittedly calling it “Gross mountain” by the end. To be fair, the super cold, blustery, and wet weather at the mountain peak didn’t help (December 22nd).

Doing crafts in the elf headquarters.

The Candid Reality

  •  Dress Code: Go Full Winter Survival

The peak of the mountain was cold and wet. We really should have dressed in our full waterproof gear as if we were going skiing, but we didn't, which was a failure on our part.

  • The Santa Disappointment

One of the first things we did at 3:30 PM (per instructions on the website) was to line up outside Santa’s workshop to book a time slot for Yuyu.

  • Warning: Once we got there, there was a sign saying that they were fully booked and no more time slots for the day. I thought this was unfair and poorly planned- there was no way for us to have known this ahead of time.

  • Tip: Do not rely on their system. If seeing Santa is a priority, call ahead or try to arrive early in the day.

Activity Reality Check

  • Live Entertainment: The musicians were playing near the entrance, but there wasn't really seating or room to watch them. The music was more for ambiance, not a sit-down show as I'd imagined.

  • The Light Walk: We tried to go outside and make the most of our time by going on the "Light Walk." However, we couldn't make it. The path was too steep/slippery, and there wasn't sturdy railing.

  • The Wins: Yuyu enjoyed seeing a real Reindeer for the first time, briefly made some arts and crafts at the Elf Headquarters and watched part of a holiday movie in the theatre.

5. The Descent

On the way back, we had to wait in a line-up for about 20 minutes to get the gondola back down. It was freezing cold and wet.

  • Hack: I'm not sure if it’s potentially less busy to come earlier in the day.

Toddler Tolerance Level:

About a max of 1 hour 30 mins total. If we had seen Santa, that probably would have made our visit feel more worthwhile.

Nap Roulette Options?

We were all ready to head home afterwards and start getting ready for bed.

Mimi of Mi & Yu things to do in Vancouver

I’m Mimi, the writer behind Mi & Yu. This blog was born out of a year spent exploring Vancouver with my toddler Yuyu and newborn son Gabe while my husband Jamie worked through a demanding fellowship.

What started as a way to survive the newborn phase turned into a collection of tried-and-tested family adventures, real reviews, tested logistics, and the occasional toddler meltdown included. Now back home in Newfoundland, I’m sharing those adventures so other parents can skip the decision fatigue and get straight to the fun part.
