Where We Spent a Wake Window: Wonder Kids Play Cafe ( Richmond)

Location & Parking:

The signage on the door is clear, so it’s easy to spot. However, I found the parking situation a bit confusing. I did a few laps around the building before finally finding paid street parking on the side.

The Damage Report ($):

  • Weekday: $7 per child (up to 3 hours).

  • Weekend: $10 per child (up to 2 hours). There is also  a $20 minimum order per adult for food or drink.

Wheely Friendly?

I was able to keep Gabe in his stroller next to me at the lunch table, but you can't really move the stroller around the play area (which was fine for us).

The Snack Situation:

Outside food and drinks are not permitted (except for babies), but there is a full restaurant onsite. Since I wasn’t particularly hungry, I ordered a kids' meal for Yuyu and a side of fries just to hit that $20 minimum.

  • The Kids' Meal ($17): It came with mac and cheese, two pieces of fried chicken, orange slices, spinach  leaves, and a piece of imitation crab. While I thought it was a bit pricey, Yuyu enjoyed her macaroni. I also appreciated that they provided water in a cup with a lid.

  • The menu: This is a full restaurant menu rather than a standard café. You’ll find everything from filet mignon and stir-fry to seafood udon. Don’t expect typical café fare like pastries or cakes.

  • Note: There is a $0.50 fee if you need a takeaway container for leftovers.

Potty Proximity:

They have a large, clean, modern bathroom with both adult and kid-sized sinks and a change table.

  • The Shoe Dilemma: Since it’s a "shoes off" facility, they provide communal slippers to wear to the bathroom. They looked clean enough, but I’m a bit weird about my feet. I ended up grabbing my own shoes from the entrance to use in the bathroom and then taking them off again.

Mum Musings:

The space is modern, bright, and very clean. Yuyu was in heaven with the dress-up area, the ball pit, the kitchen area, and the climbing structures. They even have TV video games for the slightly older kids, and a very cute party room on-site if you’re looking for a rental.

  • The "Awkward" Arrival: I have to be honest, the check-in process felt a bit uncomfortable. After I paid Yuyu's entrance fee, I was immediately asked what I wanted to order. When I said I didn't need anything yet, I was prompted again and shown the $20 minimum spend policy. For regulars, this is likely a known routine and they come ready for a full meal, but for a first-timer, it was a bit jarring. I wouldn't have minded a flat entrance fee for myself, but being required to order food on the spot felt a bit forced.

  • The Relax Factor: At first, I was doing the "parent pivot" of following Yuyu around the play structures while constantly checking back on Gabe in the stroller. The staff pointed out the camera screens positioned all over the play area. Once I realized I could watch her from the monitors at the table, I was actually able to sit back and relax for a bit.

  • My feet are always cold, so i’m glad I had socks on. If you aren’t used to sitting at a restaurant table to eat with no shoes on, bring extra socks.

Toddler Tolerance Level:

We were there for about 1 hour and 30 minutes, and Yuyu stayed busy the entire time.

Nap Roulette Options?

I was pretty tired today, so we didn't push our luck with further exploring. We headed straight home for a quiet afternoon.

Mimi of Mi & Yu things to do in Vancouver

I’m Mimi, the writer behind Mi & Yu. This blog was born out of a year spent exploring Vancouver with my toddler Yuyu and newborn son Gabe while my husband Jamie worked through a demanding fellowship.

What started as a way to survive the newborn phase turned into a collection of tried-and-tested family adventures, real reviews, tested logistics, and the occasional toddler meltdown included. Now back home in Newfoundland, I’m sharing those adventures so other parents can skip the decision fatigue and get straight to the fun part.
