Where We Spent a Wake Window: Gymboree Vancouver

Location & Parking:

Parking Pointers: There is street parking right in front of the gym but it’s limited. If you’re in a rush, don’t circle the block -  there is a parking garage right opposite the entrance.  That is where I eventually parked.

Set your GPS to:   445 W 6th Ave #100, Vancouver, BC V5Y 1L3

The Damage Report ($):

First Timers: They offer a free "class pass" to try it out!

Memberships: Pricing varies, but they have fantastic low-commitment options like 1, 5, and 10-class drop-in passes.

As we are only in Vancouver for a limited time,  we found the $16 "Open Gym Pass" was the best value for an unpredictable schedule.

Wheely Friendly?

Yes! Yes but, you need to park them in the designated area outside the classroom. ought my stroller, and there was ample space to move around, plus elevators to take you up to the activity room.

The Snack Situation:

Understandably no snacks are allowed into the classes/ little gym play area.

Potty Proximity:

There is a bathroom in the space with a great change table area.

Mum Musings: "Activity Anxiety"

  • I went through a phase of feeling guilty for Yuyu. We had uprooted her life in St. John’s, and while my friends back home were starting their kids in structured "activities," we were busy navigating a new city. Looking back, that was an irrational "first-time mum" fear. I eventually realized Yuyu was having the greatest adventures just exploring Vancouver with us.

  • Beyond that "activity anxiety," I was also on a mission to find a go-to spot because I wanted an activity that Jamie and Yuyu could do together while I was busy with baby Gabe. It was the peak of our "divide and conquer" stage.

  • The Reality Check: We only ended up going twice. Between a newborn and a toddler, our schedule was chaotic. This is why I loved Gymboree’s drop-in options. Instead of wasting a full-term registration fee, we could just show up when life allowed, completely guilt-free.

The Class & Play

  • We tried Toddler Music Class which Yuyu enjoyed but, the clean, bright indoor play gym was the real winner - it was a struggle to get Yuyu to leave! The staff were also incredibly patient, taking the time to walk us through all their programs even though we were just drop-ins.

  •  If I lived in Vancouver longer I certainly would have signed Yuyu up for some of their preschool prep programs which seemed educational and fun.

Toddler Tolerance Level:

The class was 45 minutes.

Nap Roulette Options?

The Plan: Walk 1 minute to Catalyst Cafe for treats, then 8 minutes to Jonathan Rogers Park.

The Reality: I had Gabe with us, and he was getting fussy. We gave up and went home. I’m learning it’s okay to skip the "perfect" itinerary when the baby boss says it's time to go.

Mimi of Mi & Yu things to do in Vancouver

I’m Mimi, the writer behind Mi & Yu. This blog was born out of a year spent exploring Vancouver with my toddler Yuyu and newborn son Gabe while my husband Jamie worked through a demanding fellowship.

What started as a way to survive the newborn phase turned into a collection of tried-and-tested family adventures, real reviews, tested logistics, and the occasional toddler meltdown included. Now back home in Newfoundland, I’m sharing those adventures so other parents can skip the decision fatigue and get straight to the fun part.
